Meusburger Launches New Digital Commerce Platform with TOWA and Spryker

The manufacturer will continue to set digital standards thanks to this technological milestone

December 13, 2023 – TOWA, the digital growth company, and Spryker, the leading composable commerce platform for sophisticated use cases in B2B Commerce, Enterprise Marketplaces, and IoT Commerce, have today announced the launch of Meusburger’s new digital commerce platform. Meusburger, the market leader in the field of high-precision standard parts, has been active in digital commerce for over 20 years and today processes over 53% of its orders via the shop and its digital services. With its digital share, Meusburger is already one of the leading B2B digital commerce companies in Europe. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, the development of a future-oriented platform was started in 2021 together with strategic partners TOWA and Spryker and has now been successfully launched.

Meusburger offers its 24,000 customers numerous digital services. This includes simple ordering of products such as plates and standard components and a customer portal to aid in design and planning. These unique solutions based on the most complex data and processes have been developed over the last 20 years. In 2021, following a selection process, the go-ahead was given with partners TOWA and Spryker.

“We are proud to be such a strategic partner of Meusburger and to have solved this unique technological challenge together with the Meusburger team. The mix of industry and digital is the ‘best of both worlds’, so to speak,” said Florian Wassel, CEO at TOWA.

Meusburger’s new composable commerce platform, powered by Spryker, is a leading platform for B2B manufacturing and is hosted on the cloud. The cloud technology is fully integrated into the Meusburger system landscape and, thanks to its composable architecture, offers the greatest possible flexibility to meet the customer needs of the future. State-of-the-art technology meets modern methods and processes such as automated tests and deployments, as well as Scrum and an agile interdisciplinary team,  which included two teams from TOWA and almost all departments at Meusburger.

“We are proud to offer a truly composable commerce platform that enables Meusburger to quickly adapt to the changing needs of their customers and future-proof their business,” said Boris Lokschin, Co-founder and CEO at Spryker.

The first milestone in the project was successfully achieved in 2021 and the customer information system called My Account went live. Since then, over five million receipts have been recorded, over 500,000 quotations created, and over one million orders processed via the system. The second milestone followed in the fall of 2023. The shop now has almost 100,000 items for 24,000 customers in 77 countries in seven languages and offers numerous functionalities.

The platform goes far beyond a traditional shop. It supports the customer throughout the entire supply chain and the product development process, including computer aided-design (CAD) support, parts lists and order processing. Classic e-commerce and customer service functionalities such as quotation management, complaint management, delivery tracking, ordering and intelligent filter and search options for purchasers and designers round off the platform.

For the conception and development of the functionalities, it was therefore essential to ensure the customer perspective by means of interviews, design sprints and close support from the FHV Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in user-centered design.

“We are not only a hidden champion, but we are also among the ‘digital champions’ in many areas,” said Thomas Jennerwein, Member of the Executive Board for the IT Division at Meusburger. “The scaling and complexity of our digital business is remarkable. Meusburger was already a pioneer in e-commerce 20 years ago and we are proud to be able to continue this success story.”

Further milestones and optimizations are planned for 2024, as well as the expansion of the team in Wolfurt, Austria. The teams will work in a hybrid mode and combine the needs of the high-precision standard parts business with the modern methods of digital product development.
